About
the Academy
The
Academy is a school for the Performing Arts based in Chadderton,
Lancashire. Meeting on Saturdays in the inspiring surroundings
of Foxdenton Hall, Chadderton, the school provides well-structured
and enjoyable lessons on singing, acting and dance, led by talented
and enthusiastic professionals, for pupils aged 5-16.
The
school's guiding principle is that of transferrable skills - that
is, we aim to teach more than just where to stand in the chorus
line! While we are passionate about the performing arts
and hope to share that with our students, we also know that not
everyone who enjoys performing will necessarily want to make a
career out of it.
That
is why we concentrate on what the student gains from their participation:
physical fitness, confidence, creativity, enthusiasm, teamwork,
inventiveness, quick thinking, friendship, communication skills,
self discipline and responsibility - aspects of performance that
are invaluable in life, on and off the stage. We aim to
create a safe, welcoming atmosphere that promotes a student's
own creativity.
We also
recognise the clear need for guidance for those pupils who do
wish to pursue a performing career. While all our staff
have experience of working with children and young people, they
are also energetic working performers who can offer the very best
practical advice on how to proceed. They can advise students
on everything from audition technique to approaching agents, and
give an insider's view of the difficulties (and the rewards) of
professional performance.
